Checkers Engines

   Net Checkers works only with CheckerBoard-compatible checkers engines.

   CheckerBoard by Martin Fierz is a graphical user interface for checkers. It displays a checkerboard on the screen, accepts moves made with the mouse, and loads and saves game files in Portable Draughts Notation format. CheckerBoard serves as a front-end for different services, including checkers engines. CheckerBoard archive file is a package with CheckerBoard, Cake Manchester checkers engine, a 93'000 move opening book and the 4-piece endgame database for Cake Manchester, and other...
   If you are the beginner or novice in checkers the Zebra checkers engine (included in the Net Checkers setup) satisfies all of your requirements. In either case, you will need to use more stronger checkers engines. We recommend you to use Cake Manchester engine to play strong checkers.

   The basic procedure for installing an engine is:
  • Download checkers engine archieve file from its author's FTP or Web site.
  • Install (or extract from the archive file) the engine and any supporting files it needs to the destination folder.
  • Run Net Checkers, open the Preferences dialog and select the Engines page. Double-click the left mouse button on Add new checkers engine and follow the wizard instructions.
  • Press the OK button and close the Preferences dialog.

   For example to add Cake Manchester to the Net Checkers engine list follow these steps:
  • Download and install CheckerBoard.
  • Create "Cake Manchester" subfolder in your Net Checkers engines folder (by default "c:\program files\netintellgames\net checkers 6\engines").
  • Copy from the CheckerBoard folder (by default "c:\program files\checkerboard") to created "c:\program files\netintellgames\net checkers 6\engines\Cake Manchester" folder the following files: cakem.dll, book.bin.
  • Copy from the CheckerBoard folder (by default "c:\program files\checkerboard") to created "c:\program files\netintellgames\net checkers 6\engines\Cake Manchester" folder the "db" folder with all files in it.
  • Run Net Checkers, open the Preferences dialog and select the Engines page. Double-click the left mouse button on Add new checkers engine. The Add Checkers Engine Wizard dialog appeares. Push the Next button in the first two pages of the wizard.
  • Push the Browse... button on the third page of the wizard, find and select "c:\program files\netintellgames\net checkers 6\engines\Cake Manchester\cakem.dll" file. Push the Next button to continue.
  • Push the Next button in the last two pages of the wizard.
  • Start new off line game with Cake Manchester engine.
